Product Care and Washing Guide

Hatch Gloves and Protective Gear are made with quality materials and are built to last. Proper care and maintenance will help ensure that you will get the maximum life out of your purchase. For best results, keep them away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight when not in use and store them in their original packaging.

Leather Gloves:
Should your gloves become soiled or contaminated they may be washed with mild soap (preferably anti-bacterial) and warm (not hot) water. Wash them separately from other garments, as some of the dye may run. Rinse thoroughly with cold water, pat dry with a towel and allow them to air dry completely. Do not machine dry. Washing your gloves will take some of the natural oils out of the leather, so they should be reconditioned. For best results, use a leather conditioner. If you prefer, regular hair conditioner is a cheap, viable substitute.

To wash BG800 Guardian bloodborne pathogen protective gloves, do not submerse in water, but wipe them off instead to avoid contaminating or damaging the liners. To disinfect the leather, a 10:1 water/bleach solution should be used, as recommended by both the Environmental Protection Agency and Fabric Care Institute. This should be applied using a cloth or cotton balls. Rinse, dry and recondition the leather as directed above.

*Note: Allowing the bleach solution into the inside of the BG800 will compromise the integrity of the liners. Should blood or other body fluids enter the inside of your gloves, discard them immediately.

Kevlar® Apparel:
The following instructions are for washing Kevlar® fabric only. Keep this in mind when laundering Hatch products containing other materials in addition to Kevlar®. All Hatch gloves should be hand-washed and air-dried.

Your Kevlar® apparel should be kept clean to eliminate contamination from any other chemicals or fibers, which may compromise the flame resistant characteristics. Paint, oils and other flammable chemicals can pose a significant hazard if they are not removed from the garment.

Garments of Kevlar® should be washed separately from other articles. This will help prevent contamination of lint from other fibers, which may be flammable.

Unlike fibers such as cotton, 100% Kevlar® fiber does not shrink when exposed to hot water or hot air. Machine-washing with regular household detergent should be adequate for normal cleaning. Dry cleaning may be used when regular laundering is not adequate.

Laundering or dry cleaning has no significant impact on the cut resistant properties of Kevlar® fiber. However, be sure to inspect your Kevlar® apparel for thinning of fabric or holes due to abrasion and wear, as this will affect the cut resistance.

Do not use chlorine bleach on Kevlar® Apparel. Chlorine bleach will cause Kevlar® fabric to lose strength (a reduction in tear resistance) and color over time.

Kevlar® apparel may machine dried. It is best to use a low temperature setting. A temperature setting between 140°F (60°C) and 160°F (71°C) is sufficient to dry garments quickly and thoroughly while preventing color loss.

NOMEX® Apparel:
The following instructions are for washing NOMEX® fabric only. Keep this in mind when laundering Hatch products containing other materials in addition to NOMEX®. All Hatch gloves should be hand-washed and air-dried.

Your NOMEX® apparel should be kept clean to eliminate contamination from any other chemicals or fibers, which may compromise the flame resistant characteristics. Paint, oils and other flammable chemicals can pose a significant hazard if they are not removed from the garment.

Garments of NOMEX® should be washed separately from other articles. This will help prevent contamination of lint from other fibers, which may be flammable.

Regular household laundry detergent may be used to wash NOMEX® Apparel. Tests show that detergents designed for use at a temperature of 140°F (60°C) or less adequately clean NOMEX® and will provide the best color retention.

Do not use chlorine bleach on NOMEX® Apparel. Only oxygen-based bleach should be used. Chlorine bleach will not diminish the flame resistant characteristics of NOMEX®, but it may cause the fabric to lose strength and color over time.

NOMEX® may machine dried. It is best to use a low temperature setting. A temperature setting between 140°F (60°C) and 160°F (71°C) is sufficient to dry garments quickly and thoroughly while preventing excessive shrinking and color loss.

Spectra® Liners:
Hand wash Spectra® liners with mild soap and warm water. Machine washing is not recommended due to the possibility of snags, which might occur from coming in contact with moving machine parts.

Do not use bleach, as this may compromise the integrity of the Spectra®. If you wish to sterilize the liners, anti-bacterial soap may be used. If the liners are worn alone and are not part of a leather glove, boiling in water for at least 20 minutes will disinfect them.

Air dry Spectra® Liners, or machine dry at a low temperature setting.
