Featuring the same "D" shape as their 7/16" model, Omega's 1/2" Steel Modified D NFPA Carabiner is made with bigger material for increased strength.

The Modified D Carabiner offers the same great handling and use characteristics with a strength rating of 56kN (that's over 12,500 lbf.!). This carabiner features an extra-large basket so that the gate will close over anything you can put through it. The carabiner is also UL classified to the NFPA 1983 12 edition. Like all Omega carabiners, every 1/2" Modified D is individually proof-tested to half its rated strength, which means that every one of these has been proven to hold over 6,000 lbs.!

  • Q:

When opened, is this carabiner able to fit over the bar of a typical halligan, or handle of an ax?

Most carabiners seem to be JUST too small to make it over the bar, making them pointless for any sort of personal escape situation. This one appears to be shaped differently, and of a slightly larger size.
