Pro-Tech 8 Wildland Firefighting Glove, NFPA

These are a bit thick, I would prefer something thinner. Although the waterproof barrier is a great idea.

These gloves are designed to meet NFPA 1977. That is why they are thick and heavy. As long as you understand that, they are a good glove. I think you will find that most firefighters will put these gloves in their gear bag and use the thinner leather drivers that can be picked up at the local hardware store.

Understand the product. This is designed to meet NFPA specification. The glove is above and beyond the traditional protection of thin ""normal"" wildland gloves. If you are purchasing these gloves for hard use, in less than ideal conditions, handling things meant more for a tool than a glove; this is the glove you want. So far 2 wildland seasons and many calls. These gloves have great dexterity for their construction. The gloves are comfortable, easy to donn/doff, cover more than just your hands and a little wrist. If you pick up burning chunks and just generally put your gloves through hell in a wildland season; get these gloves. If you don't stick with the basic ""driver's"" or those lousy FS gloves. Also do yourself a favor if you get these gloves, buy a glove strap and keep them aired out instead of stuffed in a pocket. They keep alot better that way, even though they are exposed to the elements more than a pair in a pocket.

I use the gloves for bonfires.

These gloves are too thick to be good wild land gloves. I received them in the mail and immediately wasn't sure if they would work well for my job. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and wore them on a couple trainings and hikes. They are way too thick for extended periods of time wearing them. They don't let your hands breathe and just hold them so close that your hands just soak in sweat. They are almost better suited as a structural glove. Maybe if someone worked for a city or local government FD and occasionally went on small IA fires, then they might be ok but definitely not for 95-110 degree days where I'm hiking all day and lighting fire and digging line.

Nice at first but they do get crispy like most leather gloves after getting wet.

We bought these to use as firing gloves for our maple syrup operation; we are literally sticking our hands in the fire about every 7 minutes to add wood. We need a glove that can handle both the heat, and handling rough fire wood. Other gloves we have bought in the past have shrunk in the heat, not had enough protection, or quickly worn through. There are three of us using these gloves, they are pretty easy for all of us to get on & off, and so far have held up really well. One of our users complained about the backs of his hands getting hot, but the other two had no complaints - we told him to work faster. We are hoping to get a few seasons of use out of these, instead of one or less like we have gotten with other gloves we have tried.

A salesman showed me these & said they are EXTRICATION & Fire , I`ve been using these for years , I have told all NEW guys that say "" GLOVES DON`T FIT / try mine & go to FIRE STORE . Been in for 39 yrs. gotta help the new guys . They dry FAST after a worker . I have a brand NEW set still in the pack at home in my closet . BEST I`ve ever had !
