      The Axe is the symbol of the Ladder Company or Truck Company officer, depending on the local termanoly. 2 Axes together is usually a Captain and 1 Axe is a Lieut.
      The Bugle is the symbol of the Engine Company officer, 2 being a captain, and 1 being a Lieut. Crossed symbol's usually are used for chief officers starting with 2 crossed as Battalion chief, 3 crossed Asst. 4 crossed Deputy and up to 5 crossed
      being the Chief, Different parts of the country the Asst. and Deputy could be flip floped. Hope I haven't confused you, and answered your question.
