Sterling 6.8mm RIT 900 Heat Resistant RIT Line
RIT Lines are rapidly becoming
one of the best personal life-safety tools used in firefighting search and rescue
situations. Sterling developed the RIT 900 to give firefighters the ability and
confidence to be "hands free" in difficult search operations. RIT Lines are fire-resistant
"tag" lines that help firefighters maintain physical contact in extreme heat and
rapidly deteriorating conditions. They significantly increase a team's speed,
efficiency, and safety within a burning building. They also provide reference
points so that additional outside crews are able to follow in quickly and safely.
The RIT 900 features an all-aramid fiber construction with heat resistance up
to 900° Fahrenheit. Aramid fibers such as Kevlar, Technora, and Twaron are abrasion
and cut resistant and can handle high temperatures. This makes these fibers ideal
for RIT Lines. At 900° F, aramid fibers disintegrate, but do not melt. The RIT
900 is a 6.8mm cord made with a hollow braid construction. It's very complact,
supple, easy to knot and makes an ideal "tag line" cord. It has become the top
rope of choice of many fire departments in the United States.
Note: Since this rope is only a 6.8mm cord, it does not qualify as Personal
Escape Rope under NFPA 1983, 2001 Edition. See our RIT 500 Rope if you require
Personal Escape Rope.
