For both work at height and rescue, access from above is preferred
because it allows one to take advantage of the force of gravity. Descenders
are designed to regulate friction and control descent on a fixed rope. They
also allow one to be positioned at certain points on the rope to perform work
operations.
Self-braking descenders allow comfort and safety when descending
and moving on fixed ropes:
Self-braking system: provides braking force when the handle
is not actuated.
Regulating the speed of the descent is done with the hand
on the free end of the rope (the rope is released with the handle.)
They allow for ascending the rope for short distances, when
used in conjunctions with a foot loop and a handled rope clamp. For use with
single ropes.
Anti-error safety catch to reduce the risk of an accident
due to incorrect installation of the device on the rope.
Anti-panic function: if the user pulls too hard on the handle,
the cam will lock on the rope.
Locking position on the handle for positioning while in the
rope.
When used for hauling, allows the system to be reversible
