The Disadvantages of Pain Compliance Techniques

Sprays and other self-defense options rely on pain compliance. Studies show that individuals under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol have higher pain tolerances and are often able to fight through the painful effects of sprays. Unlike other self-defense options, TASER C2 allows you to target any area of the body, giving you a broader range of options to protect yourself in a stressful, dangerous situation. The C2 uses a replaceable cartridge containing inert, compressed nitrogen to fire two small probes that are attached to 15 foot (4.5 meter) insulated conductive wires. Energy is sent over the wires into the probes, which can penetrate up to two cumulative inches of clothing. The charge is transmitted between the two probes, jamming sensory and motor functions, and inhibiting muscular control. This NMI effect continues in 30-second cycles each time you press the trigger. The C2 can also be used as a direct contact stun device.

TASER Electronic Control Devices (ECDs) are not considered firearms by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF) because the TASER cartridge uses compressed, inert nitrogen gas to launch the probes instead of gun powder.

"Isn't it illegal to carry a TASER ECD?"

It is legal to own a TASER C2 ECD in the U.S. except in HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY, RI, WI, and the District of Columbia. Other states might have limited restrictions on the use or possession of ECDs.

"So is the TASER C2 less powerful than ones police use?"

Second, unlike stun guns, TASER technology does not rely on pain compliance localized to the point of contact; rather it affects the sensory and motor functions of the nervous system and inhibits muscular control.
