HOT PINK SHOWS YOUR SUPPORT. Everyone can battle Breast Cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Paul Conway offers a unique way to show your support. Each Pink Paul Conway Helmet you purchase from TheFireStore is a donation to Breast Cancer Research. In association with Lion Apparel, 50% of the profits from every one of these special Pink Paul Conway Legacy 5™ or traditional style American Classic™ Helmets purchased from TheFireStore.com will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation on behalf of the purchaser.
Opportunities in Pink. Breast Cancer affects everyone. Man or woman, firefighter or fan, anybody—or any department—can make a statement of support for the women in their lives by purchasing a Pink Paul Conway Helmet. Some forward-thinking departments, such as the Corbin Fire Department in Corbin, Kentucky are using them to raise donations, as well as awareness, by contacting local businesses for $200 sponsorships to purchase these special helmets, and make a contribution of their own. Last fall the department raised $1000. Members wore the helmets proudly during special events and non-fire calls throughout the month of October (just to keep them clean for next year). But you, or the female firefighter you wish to honor, can wear these fully NFPA-compliant helmets anytime…on any call. Consider purchasing one as a meaningful gift: for graduation from the fire academy, a promotion in rank, recognition of a special act of bravery, a retiring or retired female firefighter, or just as a collectible symbol of your support. Of course, some women firefighters are proud to wear pink on every call.

Corbin firefighters’ helmets will raise money for breast cancer research
By Samantha Swindler / Managing Editor
Those pink helmets that Corbin firefighters will be sporting throughout October aren’t exactly a fashion statement, they’re a show of support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This week, city firefighters will be contacting local businesses about providing $200 sponsorships to purchase the specially-designed pink fire helmets.
Each $200 donation will purchase one helmet, and the department hopes to raise enough money for each of the 19 firemen to have one.
“It’s a real fire helmet and they have to be NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) compliant before we can wear them, that’s where the cost comes in,” said Corbin Firefighter Jack Partin.
Lion Apparel, the world’s largest supplier of firefighter protective clothing, is selling the pink helmets and donating proceeds from their sales to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation on behalf of each purchaser.
“I actually found it in a firehouse magazine,” Partin said of the program. “It was just a story about how Lion Apparel makes that helmet. Huntington Beach, Calif. had done a program, and they raised a bunch of money.”
Last fall, the Huntington Beach Fire Fighters Association and the Orange County Fire Fighters Authority, both in California, participated in the program. Proceeds from their orders totaled $1,000, which was donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
“I’m glad they are taking initiative,” Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald said of his firefighters. “It gets us in the public eye and it’s for a good cause.”
Partin plans to order the pink helmets by Aug. 10 and have firefighters wear them throughout the month of October. Each helmet will also bear the name and logo of the sponsoring businesses.
“We’re going to wear them as much as we can, but if we actually have a working structure fire, we’ll take it off and put our other helmets back on,” Partin said. That’s because the helmets will quickly get dirty inside a house fire — but they will be seen at wrecks, fire alarm calls or other CFD responses.
“We’ve not had any negative feedback,” Partin said. “I guess a few of them (firefighters) were a bit iffy about the pink helmets when we started.”
“... but they’ll wear it because I’ll say they’ll wear them,” McDonald said with a smile.
Once the helmets are purchased this year, the sponsorships will be resold for following years, and all of the $200 sponsorships can go to breast cancer research.
“Right now we’ve talked to 17 (businesses) so far in the last two days. We’ve got checks from three people already,” Partin said.
He said he’d like to have all the money in by Friday, Aug. 7.
Businesses interested in sponsoring a helmet can contact Partin or McDonald at the Corbin Fire Department at 528-2411.
