Portable personal cooling technology developed for NASA. Adapted by Cool Shirt® for the most extreme conditions on Earth.

Don’t let HEAT STRESS take anyone out of the action. Utilizing NASA study guidelines, Cool Shirt® temperature controlled cooling systems utilize ice and water circulated through a variety of cooling garments, including heavy-duty lightweight T-Shirts and reusable vests. COOL SHIRT® Systems reduce heat stress, heat fatigue, cramping, and exhaustion —while increasing alertness and safety, improving morale and productivity, and reducing heat related illnesses. Users have told us that the longer time between rehab or cool-down breaks—and subsequent increase in worker efficiency and productivity—makes a Cool Shirt Pay for itself, with surprising speed.
  • Made to wear under Level A or B HazMat suits, uniforms, coveralls, work clothing, outerwear, even body armor and other protective gear
  • Helps maintain a safe core body temperature to keep users refreshed, alert, and more effective
  • Reduces heat stress, fatigue, exhaustion, and heat-related illnesses. Improves safety, productivity, well-being
  • 45 ft. of soft medical grade tubing stitched into front & back of shirt circulates cold water over 30-40% of the body for effective cooling
  • Tubing exits on the right side
  • Cooler Waist Packs sold separately.

The Cool Shirt and Comfort Cooler Waist Pack will safely and effectively control the core body temperature of anyone wearing a HazMat suit, heavy work clothing, or coveralls in an industrial situation or any hot work environment. A Cool Shirt Personal Cooling System can be a welcome solution for Law Enforcement and tactical officers wearing body armor, Fire Police directing traffic, road crews, drivers of heavy equipment, military, industrial workers, landscaping, hospitality industry, sportsmen, or almost anyone working in intensely hot conditions or wearing hot protective clothing or gear which restricts airflow to the body, reducing the natural cooling effects of evaporation.

Cool Shirt®. Very cool design. Cool Shirt starts with a premium, 100% cotton heavy-duty T-Shirt and turns it into a lifesaver, with 50 feet of soft, flexible, medical grade capillary tubing sewn into the front and back of the shirt in four separate zones for uniform distribution and maximum cooling efficiency. Cold water—maintained at 45-55° F—is pumped through all four zones of the tubing simultaneously, to evenly cool the torso and effectively maintain core body temperatures at comfortable levels. A unique “clover-leaf” cross section gives this special tubing internal structural support that keeps it open and flowing, even under external pressure from something pressing against the tubing. And because the tubing does not go over the shoulders of the shirt, SCBA packs, shoulder straps, harnesses, backpacks, heavy clothing and protective gear are not only unlikely to restrict water flow, they are also less likely to make the tubing uncomfortable under the extra weight. A variety of self-contained battery-powered portable and external remote Cooler units are available to suit your preferences and particular needs.

"With today’s reduced teams, it’s imperative to get (everyone) back into battle as quickly as possible. We all have to do more with less people. The Cool Shirt® Aqua Vest System allows us to do just that. This system really works!”
- Chief Rick Lasky - Lewisville Texas FD

FASTER PAYBACK. LASTING SUCCESS.
Users in all kinds of industries have told us that shorter rehab or cool-down breaks, increased up-time, improved performance and decision-making—and the very real improvement in worker efficiency and productivity—makes a Cool Shirt Pay for itself with surprising speed. It’s not only extremely effective; it has proven extremely COST effective.

How the Cool Shirt® Works

  • Cool water conducts heat away from the body 28 times faster than air
  • Cool Shirt covers 30-40% of the skin’s surface with temperature-controlled cool water at 45° to 55° F, a formula proven in numerous studies to be optimum for safe, efficient cooling.
  • 50 ft of soft, flexible, medical grade tubing is arranged in 4 cooling zones on the front and back of the shirt for uniform distribution and maximum cooling efficiency
  • Cool Shirt uses conduction to effectively cool the blood, greatly decreasing perspiration and dehydration

Designed to be worn full time under HazMat suits or other protective apparel and work clothing. Cool Shirt® effectively cools the upper body during operations…to keep core body temperature under control.

THERMAL IMAGING OF A COOL SHIRT;®: shows flow of cooled water through the tubing in front (left) and rear of the cooling shirt and the significant reduction of body temperature in the area of the body surrounding it.

Numerous studies, such as those done by NASA, and proven emergency medical protocols have established that covering 30-40% of the body with water at 45-55° F, is the most efficient way to take advantage of the body’s natural responses to overheating as it moves a greater percentage of our blood to the surface for cooling. At ambient temperatures over 90° F, the body will channel as much as half of its blood away from the brain and vital organs and send it to the skin, which acts as a natural radiator, where it can be quickly cooled down by evaporating perspiration and help maintain a safe core body temperature. But when external temperatures are too severe, or evaporation is hampered by dehydration or restrictive clothing, the results are more likely to be severe heat stress, cramping, heat exhaustion, and even heart attack. Plus it rapidly reduces brain function—including the ability to reason and make the quick, correct decisions so critical to survival in a dangerous situation.

Independent testing has proven that COOL SHIRT® Aqua Vest provides:

  • Significant reduction in sweat rate
  • Significant reduction in dehydration
  • Significant reduction in cramping attributed to dehydration and electrolyte loss

The HAZMAT Cooler Portable Cooling System is a simple pre-configured system designed to be worn and operated inside a Level A or a Level B suit. The Waist Pack Cooler that feeds the Cool Shirt is designed to fit neatly beneath most SCBA tanks. It’s an efficient, ultra lightweight system weighing only 4 pounds when filled with ice and water to the temperature controlled compact cooler. Each system includes one freezable water “bottle” specially designed to provide a more consistent, long-lasting primary cooling source when placed in the cooler along with additional cubed or crushed ice and water. The system will provide up to 2 hours of continuous consistent cooling per bottle. Each lithium rechargeable battery will operate the self-contained pump for up to 7 hours. The bottles are filled with water and frozen. They can be switched out in less than 2 minutes. Includes fully adjustable straps to fit waist sizes from 20 inches to 54 inches, to accommodate heavy clothing, SCBA tanks, and other gear.

Cool Shirt Back Pack Cooler System: Twice the time between refills. When a longer time in the field can significantly improve productivity, the fully portable Cool Shirt Back Pack Cooler System can provide up to 2 hours of effective cooling before you need to add ice. Powered by the same reliable 7.4V pump and rechargeable battery system as the Waist Pack Cooler, the Backpack Cooler System is designed to work with a Level C HazMat suit, or any work clothes that allow you to carry something on your back. The soft, comfortable, low-profile Back Pack system can keep your Cool Shirt or Aqua Vest actively cooling, and you or your employee functioning productively on the job, for a significantly longer period of time—without being tied down to a power outlet or stationary water supply. At roughly 19” x 9” by 4” deep, the Back Pack Cooler’s relatively flat profile allows it to worn under a Level C HazMat suit when an SCBA isn’t needed, or under larger coveralls. And it can be easily carried and worn over almost any work clothes or outerwear—or simply worn over the Cool Shirt, when additional protective clothing or gear is not required.

More Cool Shirt Aqua Vest Cooler options to meet your needs. Cool Shirt offers a wide range of portable and stationary cooler systems to meet a wide range of requirements for individual users or an entire team of operators. You can choose a compact, lightweight, fully-portable rechargeable battery-powered system such as the Cool Shirt Waist Pack Cooler or Back Pack Cooler. Either system can be worn comfortably under some HazMat suits, over work clothes of all kinds, or used with other types of clothing and protective gear.

Drivers or personnel attached to a vehicle can plug their Cool Shirt or Aqua Vest into a free-standing 12v cooler system originally developed for racing car cockpits that can easily reach over 130° F. These “hard” coolers or soft portable bag coolers can be mounted, or simply placed, in virtually any type of vehicle. Systems can be configured to cool just one person or an entire crew.

Or you can keep a whole crew comfortable and more productive by periodically recharging their shirts from a stationary 110v AC-powered single- or multi-person system initially designed primarily for firefighter Rehab Stations.

We have access to an ever-growing variety of coolers and Cool Shirt garments to meet almost any personal cooling or rehab requirements. We can configure, or custom-design a cost-effective system especially for you. Call us at 800 852-6088 for more information.
