As far as we know the battle ribbons colors and the hash marks are decided by the people giving them out. We would think that maybe 1 hash mark would equal say 5 years of service, so you said you have 30 years than you might get 6 hash marks going up your sleeve, it looks a lot better than 1 hash mark per year, you wouldn't have enough room on your sleeves.
