Details

Able to function as a striking surface, a foothold, an emergency anchor for rappelling, and much more, the Badaxx is designed to save the lives of those who save lives.

The Badaxx is designed to lower the amount of risk firefighters, police officers, tactical forces, and first responders face when saving lives and to increase their efficiency at their jobs.

The Badaxx’s 4150 tool steel head features a straight blade that provides an effective striking surface when used with a Halligan style bar. The head applies maximum impact force to the striking surface while beveled edges force material away from the blade, which minimizes exertion, preserves energy, and enables efficient completion of time-critical operations.

The 4.5” pick can be quickly driven into most materials to provide an immediate extra foothold during emergency operations; knurling on the top surface of the head prevents your foot from slipping when climbing on the foothold. Ergonomically shaped for a more natural swing, the high strength aluminum handle features a hole that can support a safety rope for rappelling and bailout operations.

Durable, versatile, and easy to carry and use, the Badaxx is an excellent lifesaving tool for public safety workers.

The Head
The head of the BADAXX tool is created through the process of investment casting, otherwise known as lost wax casting. BADAXX started with a die that has wax injected into it to form the shape of the head. The wax head is then coated with a series of porcelain layers to create a mold of the head. The mold is then heated to melt and remove the wax and is finally filled with molten 4150 tool steel. Once cooled down, the porcelain is removed to expose the finished head.

The head of the BADAXX tool has been engineered to apply maximum impact force to the striking surface while the beveled edges force material away from the blade. The result is an effective method of breaking through material without the blade being pinched or jammed. This allows for the efficient completion of time-critical operations, while minimizing exertion, and preserving much needed energy.

The face of the blade provides an effective striking surface when used with a Halligan style bar. The rectangular hole in the head is designed to receive a 2”-3” adz blade of a Halligan style bar. This design allows the handles to marry close together and can easily be grasped with one hand. The BADAXX tool and a Halligan style bar, affectionately known as the “irons”, are the perfect pair for any forcible entry job!

The Pick
Made from hardened 4150 tool steel, the 4.5” pick can quickly be driven into most materials, providing an immediate extra foot hold during emergency operations. Badaxx designed their pick to have a consistent width throughout its length. By not having the entire pick tapered like a wedge, they have avoided the wobbly, unstable foothold most commonly found with the traditional pick head axe.

To increase your safety Badaxx has added knurling to the top surface of the head to prevent your foot from slipping. With the tapered end and angle of the pick, they have designed it to be very efficient at overhaul while also allowing it to function as a fulcrum for prying and lifting.

The Handle
The handle is precision machined from a solid blank of Aerospace tempered aluminum; this is the toughest alloy of aluminum and is the same grade used in manufacturing commercial aircraft. They have chosen this alloy to allow extreme strength while keeping the weight down. They then treat the handle with an anodized finish to get the color you want and prevent oxidation.

The BADAXX handle is ergonomically shaped for a more natural swing. The hole provided at the end of the handle allows you to easily attach a safety rope for rappelling and bailout operations. The cross hatch pattern along with the hooked finger grab prevents the axe from slipping from your grasp.

The handle has been machined to include two styles of hydrant wrenches necessary to quickly open and close standard fire hydrants. The top surface of the head also includes a pocket that will operate a standard shutoff valve for both water and gas meters.blade of a Halligan style bar. This design allows the handles to marry close together and can easily be grasped with one hand.

The BADAXX tool and a Halligan style bar, affectionately known as the “irons”, are the perfect pair for any forcible entry job!

Rappelling
The base of the BADAXX blade has been engineered to create an emergency anchor point for first responders who find themselves trapped above the ground floor of any structure. The anchor point can latch onto, or be driven into, most building materials. A safety rope can easily be attached to the hole provided at the end of the handle to allow you to rappel to safety.

The BADAXX tool allows you to complete many challenging tasks while providing you peace of mind, knowing you have a rock solid anchor point anywhere, and anytime you need it.

Gimmicky, Heavy, Limited Use, EXPENSIVE

by

It's just as gimmicky as it looks. You don't end up using the hydrant wrench and bailout handle cutouts at all, it has limited forcible entry capabilities because it still requires you to use a halligan with it so you're basically just replacing the traditional ax with a heavier tool that resembles an ax. Haven't used it on a roof yet but I don't see myself using this (or any ax for that matter) to cut a hole in 2017. We have power saws now. I know what you're thinking. Saws can choke out, in which case I'll just get another saw. Finally, this thing is way overpriced. They're clearly trying to pay off the start-up because it's aluminum and steel. Gimme a break. I wish my dept. would return it for a refund. Oh and P.S., your hands will go numb from the lack of shock absorption. Even wit gloved hands, it hurts every time you make contact while forcing doors

Good but needs some modification!

TLDR: Good tool, Grip tape the handle. We run a Badaxx on our first due pumper. In the first 6 months of operations we had multiple injury reports due to the tool slipping during operation. Once we corded and grip taped the handle she has been an excellent addition to my operations...

Take it from a salty dog

I've been on Memphis fire department for 20 years, fought more fires in 1 month than most see in a carrier. I build and fabricate things all the time. I've seen axes through the years and never liked them. As soon as I saw this one I had to have it because I know what works.
