Made of PVC, the sealed Standard Vacuum Mattress is filled with polystyrene balls that mold themselves around the patient’s body when the patient is placed on the mattress. Then, the air is pumped out through the non-metallic valve and the valve is sealed. The atmospheric pressure presses the polystyrene balls together, making the mattress rigid and immobilizing the patient. Once the patient is secure inside the mattress, rescuers can then use the mattress’s six handles (three on each side) to safely and efficiently transport the patient to a hospital.
The fire retardant, waterproof Standard Vacuum Mattress can be used in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to +60°C). It is also X-ray translucent and easy to clean.
