IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting has been the source and standard for training safe and successful firefighters since the publication of the first edition in 1977. Generations of firefighters have built their fire and emergency responder careers based on the knowledge and skills they honed with Essentials of Firefighting.
Completely revised for today's firefighters, the 6th edition contains all the information and skills needed to meet the requirements of NFPA 1001 – 2013 Edition (Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications). The manual includes new learning objectives, key terms noted in boxes in the margins of each chapter, case histories, and review questions in each chapter that are designed to enhance students' understanding. Each chapter clearly delineates Fire Fighter I knowledge and Fire Fighter II skills. Photographs are enhanced with illustrations and additional tables to make the content more relevant for visual learners. Warnings, Cautions, and Safety Alerts emphasize safety at all times for new firefighters mastering basic skills. Skill sheets show safe methods for performing each firefighter skill. Appendix A is a correlation matrix for all NFPA 1001 job performance requirements referenced to page numbers for each knowledge and skill requirement. All content in the manual is presented in a single column format that's been proven most effective for reading comprehension for adult learners.
